Sister Cities Park programming offers summer-long fun for families
PHILADELPHIA (May 17, 2017) – This spring and summer, Sister Cities Park at 18th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be offering a variety of exciting events, from BYOB summer barbeques with live music in the evenings to children’s art, science and nature programs.
Pairings on the Parkway
This summer concert series event returns for another season, featuring singer-songwriter style live music from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursdays each week. Park goers can bring their own bottle. Chaddsford Winery’s award-winning, PA-made wines will also be available for purchase by the glass and bottle. Chaddsford Winery will feature its Proprietors Reserve White, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Proprietors Reserve Red, Harbinger, Sangri-la Sangria, and
Hard Cider. Winery staff will also offer pairing suggestions based on Logan Square Café special summer grilling menu. The Children’s Discovery Garden will have extended hours so children can enjoy the park while the music plays. The music schedule is:

Library in the Park Book Cart
The book cart features some of your favorite titles from notable authors and is accompanied by a new children’s reading lounge area. Presented by TD Bank, this program encourages children to read while they are in Sister Cities Park.
Story Art
Join in on the fun of nature-themed crafts every Monday at 10:30 a.m., June 5 – August 7. This exciting activity for children includes story reading from the Free Library of Philadelphia followed by crafts with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation.
Grow Up Green
Join Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m., June 7 – August 9 for a different activity each week. Outdoor play inspires a greater connection with the outdoor world. Children, ages 3 and older, are encouraged to attend.
Nature in the Park
Join the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University every other Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for fun-filled activities for budding young scientists. Each week has a theme and children can stop by to learn about dinosaurs, nature, history and more.

Logan Square Café at Sister Cities Park is a family-friendly café that offers a quick-stop breakfast, lunch for families exploring the park, or an afternoon pick-me-up for tourists visiting area museums. For information, call 215-665-8600 or visit logansquarecafe.com.
Children’s Discovery Garden
Young visitors can explore nature in an urban setting in the Children’s Discovery Garden in Sister Cities Park. Inspired by Philadelphia’s Wissahickon Valley, the garden’s winding pathways, scalable rocks and meandering stream provide a setting for discovery and imaginative play. Children can hike the trail, summit the “mountain” and enjoy the view, while connecting with the natural and man-made environments surrounding them.
Boat Pond
Enjoy the pleasures of sailing in the boat pond. Bring your own model boat or buy one at the park to navigate the shallow waters for hours of fun. Small boats are $5 and large boats are $7 (two large boats are $12). Save your receipts for five purchases and you get the sixth free.
The pond is open and staffed with an attendant Monday – Sunday, 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., expect for Thursday evenings during Pairings on the Parkway, when it’s open until 7:30 p.m.
