Center City District Foundation

Wintergarden celebrates the spirit of the season with twinkling lights and a festive atmosphere, welcoming visitors of all ages. Residents, shoppers and tourists all enjoy the garden—a quieter moment within bustling Dilworth Park—filled with ice skating, shopping, a light show and more.

Center City District thoughtfully crafted this year’s Wintergarden by choosing plant material that is vibrant, colorful, and textured with a special emphasis on plant material that is native to the Philadelphia region and will benefit pollinators and the birds and wildlife within Center City. We also selected plants we felt would inspire homeowners to create their own urban garden and are easy to find at local stores.

Wintergarden is sustainable too, as most of the plant material is repurposed after the garden is disassembled in late March, further beautifying Center City District parks and planters throughout the downtown, helping to maintain Center City District’s existing green spaces and create new ones. Center City District aims to reuse, recycle, and replant!

Each year, the four reindeer topiary portray a character with elements that have been collected from nature. These whimsical creatures have been created on a wire structure with moss, seedheads, grasses, pods, and anything that has come from a natural source. See if you can figure out which one is which!
