Employee Spotlight: Brian Smith, Facility Maintenance/Events Supervisor

What’s your favorite thing about working at Center City District?
I love the work atmosphere. I have a group of people I work with that make my job easier and I try to return the favor. Also, just working downtown is an amazing experience with the different walks of life down here. You never know who you’re going to meet.

What is your role, and what does a day in your work life at CCD look like?
I’m a Facility Maintenance Supervisor/Events Supervisor. I coordinate with our team to make sure that the park is in great condition and to make sure the fountain is operating properly and running right, meaning that the chemical levels are where they need to be and the filter is working properly. We must make sure the lights are on upstairs and downstairs.

Also, we handle all the maintenance for both our cafés, airstream and Starbucks. My team and I kind of do a little bit of everything from plumbing to some electrical work and carpentry. I can’t forget, my guys also practice safety first before any job so we can avoid any accidents or injuries. We handle the cleaning of all the furniture at each park.

Now, on the events side. I coordinate with Aaron; he gets all the information we need for each event we have at our parks. The full timers and part timers go off the event sheets so we can set up whatever materials marketing needs, and they execute every time.

What work are you most proud of in your role at CCD?
I’m able to teach and learn from my fellow peers.

If you were planning a day out in Center City, what would be on the agenda?
Probably catch a movie and go to a nice restaurant afterwards.

What is something interesting about you outside of your CCD work that you would like to share about yourself?
I see myself as someone that is adventurous. I like to travel, sightsee, and try new things that are fun.
